We set of from the Camarinal lighthouse, above Cabo de Gracia in Atlanterra, a marvellous beach next to Zahara de los Atunes. The path that will lead us to the beach of Bolonia starts at the very foot of the lighthouse.

From the lighthouse we have marvellous views that accompany us the whole way: the Straits, the coasts of Tarifa and Zahara de los Atunes and in the distance the African coast. On clear days the city of Tangiers will be visible.

The route crosses pine and eucalyptus forests on sandy and clayey soil before dropping down to the bay of Bolonia. Here we find the ruinas romanas de Baelo Claudia. This ancient Roman city was founded at the end of the 2nd century B.C. Its origin and development are closely linked to commerce with the north of Africa and especially the salting and preserving of fish.

The remains of the forum, the palace of justice, the temples of Juno, Jupiter and Minerva, the baths, the market, the theatre, etc are all evidence of the importance this city once had. The guided visit to this archaeological complex and a swim if we wish at the beach of Bolonia close this route that combines nature, spectacular views and the enjoyment of our historical and cultural heritage.
